TEACHING MUSIC

I teach online or in-person private music lessons,

and group workshops, for all ages.

See below for an overview of lesson opportunities,

and group class descriptions.

In-person appointments for private lessons can be scheduled approximately

every 4-6 weeks (I do not teach weekly lessons) in Salt Lake City, UT

or near Harpers Ferry, WV.

I teach in-person at my office, or can make location visits.

Online appointments can be scheduled more frequently, as often as twice monthly.

You may also schedule both online and in-person lessons as a hybrid approach.

One-time consultation, or occasional lessons, are available

and can be very effective for life-long learners.

A one-time trial lesson can be scheduled to see if we're a good match

for your musical path.

I'm now taking on students who already play the violin/fiddle to at least an intermediate level. For songwriters, I can accommodate any level of songwriting experience.

If requested, I can organize a class/workshop for a group of friends who want

to experience a fun learning atmosphere.

I teach one-hour lessons that are designed to meet your musical needs.

In-person lessons are $60 for 1 hour.

Online lessons are $50 for 1 hour.

Workshop prices can be negotiated according to location, how many people attend,

and how long a workshop is planned.

“We have featured Kate in our school concerts for elementary school children. The children were energized and motivated. If you are considering working with her,
by all means do what you have to, to get her in front of an audience.”

Jeff Whiteley, Director of Excellence in the Community Concert Series, UT

Here's what I offer for private music lessons.

~ Fiddle/Violin

I specialize in fiddle playing for the styles of American Old-Time, Bluegrass, Irish, and Scottish.

I concentrate on violin playing techniques, understanding how the violin works, and how to enjoy your playing. I teach about many influential fiddlers with a variety of tunes that will help you understand the expression of the music and how to improve your own interpretation of fiddle music. I can help Classical violinists demystify the art of fiddle-playing, and share the stylistic characteristics of each fiddle genre.

~ Songwriting

For songwriting, a lesson can be very useful for sharpening your songwriting skills. These lessons are for songwriters who would like to look closely at the details of their original songs. The time involves listening, discussion, with editing of the lyrics, melodies, and arrangements.

Here's a list of workshops I offer for group sessions,

but classes are not limited to this list, I can create custom workshops.
