Kate MacLeod Offers the Following Workshops and Residency Programs:

    1. "The History of Song" (Lecture)
      For youth, approximate ages 15-18. 45-60 minutes.
       
    2. "Master Class/Workshop on Songwriting"
      This is for beginning to advanced writers, both experienced and inexperienced with songwriting. The purpose of the workshop is to encouraging songwriters to have the confidence to put their ideas to work, without letting the inner critic get in the way of enjoying the process. The workshop includes studying songs in the making by the attendees. Attendees are asked to share their works in progress or poems that they imagine could be put to melody.
      Ages 14-up. 60 minutes – four hours.
       
    3. "Master Class/Workshop on Songwriting for Youth"
      This is designed for music students, or writing students with an emphasis on poetry for Approximate ages 15-18. 60-120 minutes.
       
    4. "How Traditional Music Influences Today's Popular Music"
      This workshop is designed for music students.
      Approximate ages 15-18. 45-60 Minutes
       
    5. "Fiddle Styles for the Violin"
      An introduction to "fiddle" playing and demonstrations of fiddle styles.
      This workshop demonstrates differences between the fiddle styles of genres including Scottish, Irish, Cape Breton, American Old-Time, Bluegrass and Contest Style. This is a lecture workshop with some playing, attendees are encouraged to bring their instrument.
      All ages. 45-120 minutes.
       
    6. Fiddle Workshop/Celtic Music
      Kate MacLeod specializes in Scottish and Irish fiddling and has made semi-annual excursions to the British Isles to study the music. In this workshop details of the celtic fiddle styles are defined, including bowing styles, ornamentation and stylistic expression. This workshop can be attended by both beginning to advanced fiddle or classical players. One hour-two hours.
       
    7. Performances
      Kate MacLeod will arrange an appropriate performance for your residency needs upon request. This performance can include material on traditional music from North America, Celtic music styles of the British Isles, songwriting and information on the history of song form.
