For the price of one fiddle lesson, this instructional DVD offers the content of several lessons that can help begin your study of fiddle-playing. From my twenty-five years of teaching experience, I answer the most common questions that arise for fiddle students. I carefully explain the basic techniques involved in fiddle-playing, demonstrate a variety of well-known traditional tunes, and point to important points within them. I focus on the Celtic and American Old-Time styles, which are the basis of traditional American fiddle music and are the styles that I have personally studied the most and have performed on concert stages across the USA. This instructional video also explains differences between classical and fiddle techniques, and explains fiddle techniques for students who have had previous classical experience. My unique perspective on fiddle-playing comes from my years of experience as a performer and teacher of classical violin and several traditional fiddle styles. As a special bonus, I've included footage taped during one of my master classes involving beginning students. Fiddle-players differ according to their own style of playing, the techniques they learn and use, and the genres of music they have played before. This DVD is designed to be useful for fiddle students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
This DVD is appropriate:
- For all ages
- For beginning fiddle students with some knowledge of basic tunes.
- For classical violinists of all skill levels who want to know the basic bowing patterns and other details about fiddle-playing.
- For violin and fiddle instructors who want an easy-to-use audiovisual aid that will supplement their own teaching strategies and serve as a potential tool for their students.
The following tunes are included in this video:
Old Joe Clark, The Swallowtail Jig, Ook Pik Waltz, Back Up and Push, Another
Jig Will Do, Off the California, Saint Anne's Reel, Ragtime Annie, Sally
Goodin', The Mason's Apron.
